Johor govt allocates RM1mil to haemodialysis centre

SEGAMAT: A haemodialysis centre here will receive RM1mil from the Johor government to fund a portion of its expansion project to build a new building with 100 dialysis units.

Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman announced the allocation for Wisma Pertubuhan Hemodialysis Muhibbah Segamat Monday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project at Bandar Putra.

The RM8mil project, consiststing of a six-storey building, is expected to be completed by end of next year.

The new facility will be able to receive up to 300 patients per day compared with 150 patients currently, said the centre chairman Tan Sri Tan Beng Tong.

The centre, operated by non-governmental organisations in the district, was established 17 years ago with only eight machines. It now has 45 machines at its main centre in Segamat Baru and a branch in Labis.

Tan said the centre had been raising funds to build a larger centre with more machines due to the increasing number of patients with kidney diseases who needed dialysis treatment service
