The Ministry of Health Malaysia has initiated the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program for all registered Nurses and Assistant Medical Officers both in the private and public sectors.
The CPD program is a continuous learning process to ensure all allied health professionals are kept up-dated with the latest knowledge and skill to ensure the best possible service and treatment offered meets the forever demanding expectations of the patients and society resulting in the best possible patient treatment outcome.

Gathering CPD points will be a pointless effort if CPD points were awarded without proper accreditation and professional oversight. It is quite sad that those in the hierarchy of the nursing profession dish out CPD points just so that yearly CPD point requirements can be met. It defeats the purpose of this Nursing Board's regulation. There isn't a serious attempt to measure the 'Continuous Professional Development' in the individual. For instance a nurse attending a 2 day conference is automatically given 20 CPD points upon registration. What happens after that is anyone's guess.But I know where our health-care delivery is heading, don't you?
